KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, assistant curator
Léon Kruijswijk (*1989, the Netherlands) is assistant curator at KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin, and is a freelance curator and critic. With his practice Léon addresses themes at the intersection of identity politics, queer and gender theory, activism, and institutional critique. He assesses how these themes come together and resonate across visual art, literature, film, experimental music, and performance. Léon organized exhibitions and events as a freelancer at Framer Framed, NEVERNEVERLAND, De School Amsterdam, ROZENSTRAAT—a rose is a rose is a rose, and Perdu, among others. Between 2016 and 2019, he co-curated the Queer Series together with Bas Hendrikx—a series of roving events disclosing queer perspectives in contemporary art. Léon’s recent writings have been published on Mister Motley, in Metropolis M and in the graduation catalogues of the Sandberg Instituut.
